As reported by WABetaInfo, this feature, currently in beta, allows users to easily interact with another user’s status update. Because it is consistently visible, it may increase interaction, eliminating the need to swipe up to access the reply menu. In a way, this is quite similar to Instagram, where you can directly reply to stories.
According to the report, this feature will be available for both Android and iOS users.

With that said, considering it has already made it to the beta release, it shouldn’t be too long before it becomes available to all users.
In related news, WhatsApp is finally introducing support for “view once” audio messages that disappear once heard. This is an addition to the already existing feature in the app that lets you send “View Once” photos and videos. The audio messages that you send using this WhatsApp feature will auto-destruct once they are played. Meta notes that this would add an extra layer of privacy for users.
