Petrol, and Diesel Prices on December 11: A slight increase is being seen in the prices of crude oil in the international market today. Around 6 am on Monday, WTI crude is being sold at $ 71.36 per barrel while remaining in the green mark. At the same time, Brent crude has fallen to $ 76.03 per barrel. Oil marketing companies in the country have released the latest rates of petrol and diesel. In India, fuel prices are revised every morning at 6 am. Before June 2017, price revision was done every 15 days.

In Maharashtra, the price of petrol is increasing by 36 paise and that of diesel by 35 paise. Petrol has become costlier by 25 paise and diesel by 22 paise in Madhya Pradesh. Along with this, the prices of petrol and diesel are also increasing in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. On the other hand, in Bihar petrol has become cheaper by 36 paise and diesel by 34 paise. In Punjab, petrol is getting cheaper by 27 paise and diesel by 29 paise as compared to yesterday. There is a decline in the prices of petrol and diesel in Chhattisgarh also.
At present, petrol in Delhi is being sold at Rs 96.72 a litre while diesel is being sold at Rs 89.62 a litre. Whereas in Mumbai, petrol is available at Rs 106.31 and diesel at Rs 94.27 per litre. While petrol in Kolkata is Rs 106.03 and diesel is Rs 92.76 per litre. On the other hand, petrol is being sold at Rs 102.63 and diesel at Rs 94.24 per litre in Chennai.

In India, oil marketing companies (OMCs) such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum determine petrol and diesel prices. This is done daily, and rates are determined in accordance with the price of crude oil throughout the world.
Why do fuel prices vary across states?
The rates for each day, whether new or unchanged, are announced at 6 am on the day. These, however, vary from state to state; this is due to criteria such as Value Added Tax (VAT), freight charges, local taxes, etc.
