Assembly Elections 2023 Exit Poll Live Updates: The predictions of who wins how many seats in which states and which party suffers losses in the elections to five states – Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram – will start coming after 6:30 pm on Thursday after voting ends for Telangana assembly elections.

The final results for the five assembly elections to Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram will be declared on Sunday, December 3.

The pre-result predicts will provide a glimpse of the voting trends, public sentiment and potential outcomes in the five poll bound states. Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan voted in a single phase on November 7, 17 and 25. The polling in Chhattisgarh was held in two phases on November 7 and 17. Polling is underway in Telangana on Thursday till 6:00 pm.

WHAT ARE EXIT POLLS?

Exit polls provide a glimpse into the mood of voters and are based on surveys of voters leaving a polling booth, their preferences and how they voted. The exit polls on Thursday are likely to give an indication of the assembly election outcomes.

While the counting of votes will take place on December 3, exit polls are conducted by survey agencies and published by the media ahead of the counting day.

WHEN WILL THE EXIT POLLS BE DECLARED?

Earlier, the Election Commission of India had issued a notification banning the conduct, publication and publicity of exit polls from 7 am on November 7 to 6.30 pm on November 30. Citing provisions of the electoral law, the panel said “any person who contravenes the provisions of this section shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years or with fine or with both”.

Exit poll results for all the five states will be declared after 6.30 pm on November 30, once the voting concludes in Telangana at 6 pm.

WHEN DID THE VOTING TAKE PLACE?

Madhya Pradesh

Voting for Madhya Pradesh Assembly election, to decide the electoral fate of 2,533 candidates in 230 seats ended at 6 pm on November 17. There are 2,533 candidates in the fray including political heavyweights like Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his predecessor and rival Kamal Nath.

The voting in Madhya Pradesh was done in a single phase and a voter turnout of 77.15% was recorded. In the last assembly election, Congress remained the largest party in the state with 114 seats. The fight in the state is primarily between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress.

Rajasthan

Rajasthan, which went to polls on November 25, recorded a voter turnout of 75.45 per cent in the assembly elections. The log was marginally higher than the figure of previous elections in 2018 in which the state registered a turnout of 74.71 per cent.

The ruling Congress and the BJP contested on 199 seats, where 1,862 candidates were in fray and voting was held in more than 51,000 polling booths in the state. Congress leaders, including Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, state unit president Govind Singh Dotasra and former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot, and BJP leaders, including former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, leader of opposition Rajendra Rathore and deputy leader of opposition Satish Poonia were among the candidates.

In Rajasthan, the fight is mainly between the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP, while Independent candidates and BSP might have an influence if there is a close contest between the two parties.

Chhattisgarh

In Chhattisgarh, election to the 90-seat assembly was held in two phases on November 7 and 17. In the first phase, 20 seats in the Naxal-affected state, went for voting on November 7 and saw a high voter turnout of 78 per cent. In the second phase, a voter turnout of 68.15 per cent was recorded for 70 constituencies.

While the Congress government in the state, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, promised to continue expanding its current welfare projects, the BJP campaigned for the elections with the manifesto “Modi’s Guarantee for Chhattisgarh 2023.” Led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the BJP promised one lakh new jobs, free electricity to farmers, better infrastructure, healthcare and education. In Chhattisgarh, the fight is primarily between the two major parties: Congress and the BJP.

Telangana

Voting is currently underway in Telangana on Thursday (November 30) to elect members to the 119-seat legislative assembly. A high decibel campaign saw the likes of top national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi and ruling BRS supremo K Chandrasekar Rao, addressing a series of meetings crisscrossing the state.

The ruling BRS has made all efforts to score a hat-trick, while the Congress, which has been on a winning spree after Karnataka, is also eyeing power by assuring its ‘six guarantees’ to voters. The BJP, meanwhile, is going with the promise of making a chief minister from the backward classes if it comes to power.

Mizoram

In Mizoram, the elections were held in 40 seats to decide the fate of 174 candidates in the polls on November 7. The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), main opposition party Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), BJP and Congress are fighting to come to power in the Northeastern state.
