Students who have completed their graduation and post-graduation and are looking for a job may find it difficult to get past the first stages and land an interview. This could be because your resume, with no work experience, lacks the lustre it requires to grab an employer’s attention.

Creating a resume without work experience can be challenging, but it isn’t impossible.
Here is a guide for students to write an effective resume despite having no work experience:
1. Make your educational background the highlight
While people with prior work experience first list their past work as the highlight, students can make their educational background the highlight instead.
From your 10th to 12th standard to your graduation and post-graduation, write down your marks clearly in reverse chronological order, preferably.
Clearly list the name of your college, university, degree pursued and graduation date.
You may even write down your academic achievements or relevant coursework, including any additional subject that you may have taken beyond the core subject.
2. Projects
If you have submitted any project demonstrating your hard work, skills and teamwork during your studies, make sure to list them.
3. Skills
Highlight your skills, especially those that are relevant to the job you are applying for.

This could mean hard skills such as computer knowledge and soft skills such as teamwork, communication, leadership, etc.
4. Extracurricular activities
Participation in extracurricular activities can demonstrate to the employer your initiative, teamwork, leadership skills, etc.
So, students should make sure to include in their resume any clubs or organisations they have been a part of and even any volunteer work they may have done.
5. Course certifications
Have you done a Coursera Digital Marketing Course? Or a Google Certificate Course?
Include all certifications or additional training you have completed, especially if they are relevant to the position.
6. Languages
Mention the languages you are proficient in on your resume. This can be valuable, especially if the job requires bilingual skills.
