The homegrown carmaker Mahindra notched a top spot for itself in the Indian automotive market after the Mahindra Thar 3-door became one of the most in-demand and hot-selling products of the company.

Since then, the company has been making efforts to capture compact-size SUVs and introduce the complete off-road vehicle in 5-door in the Indian market.
Mahindra is heavily testing the 5-door Thar ahead of its official unveiling or launch. The car already took the streets by storm as the SUV was spied many times during the testing phase, fully covered in camouflage, revealing the overall design and some of its key features. Recently, the beast on wheels, which is expected to launch by mid-2024, was spotted again with a sunroof.
Talking about the sunroof, the 3-door Thar consisted of two versions: a hard top and a soft top, whereas the 5-door version is likely to be available only with a hard top. This setup will be an integrated sheet metal construction that will provide a sunroof in the SUV with a proper drainage layout with the body shell to offer better integrity and stability. As evident in the video by Motorbeam, the 5-door Thar has a regular sunroof and not a panoramic one.

MAHINDRA THAR 5-DOOR: FEATURES AND DESIGN
The upcoming ‘5-door Thar’ will be equipped with advanced features such as a wide sunroof, fixed rear glass, a front armrest, a split window for the rear passengers, multiple seating options at the back, pillar-mounted grab handles for all four doors, LED taillamps, and updated alloy wheels, among others, along with additional doors. The four-wheeler will also offer slightly different exterior design and colours, and the interior theme is also expected to undergo noticeable changes.
As far as the cabin is concerned, the spy images revealed that the brand is likely to add automatic climate control and an updated touchscreen infotainment system, which will support all car Connect techs. In addition to that, this Mahindra SUV will have both a 2.2-litre m-Hawk diesel engine and a 2.0-litre m-Stallion turbo petrol engine with the option of a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual.

MAHINDRA THAR 5-DOOR: LAUNCH DATE
Executive Director and CEO of Mahindra & Mahindra Rajesh Jejurikar informed the media that the five-door Mahindra Thar is one of their highly anticipated products and will not be unveiled this year as the company is more focused on clearing the pending order. However, he said that auto enthusiasts can expect the launch in 2024.
