MP Election 2023: In Indore, early morning voters get treat of free poha and jalebi

Indore’s Madhuram Sweets offered free poha to early voters before 9 AM, encouraging 100% voting.

Madhya Pradesh Election 2023: As Madhya Pradesh votes for the crucial Assembly polls, some people are adopting unique ways to promote more and more voters to cast their ballots. In Indore, which is well-known for its lip-smacking street food, a shop owner decided to go an extra mile for early morning voters. According to news agency ANI, Madhuram Sweets located in Indore was seen distributing free poha to all those people who voted before 9 am today.

Amidst the polling process, Shyam Sharma who is the owner of Madhuram Sweets, said that he had made an arrangement of free poha and jalebi for the voters. 

Shyam Sharma says, “I believe that 100% voting will take place. With this sentiment, we have made the arrangement of Poha and Jalebi for the public”. He also specified that the free service was available from 6 am to 9:30 am.

Polling on all 230 seats of Madhya Pradesh began on Friday morning. In the state, 2,533 candidates, including Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan from BJP and former Chief Minister Kamal Nath from Congress, contest for the 230 assembly seats. The main power struggle remains between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress.

Polling commenced from 7 AM and will continue till 6 PM in most assembly segments, excluding specific areas. Baihar, Lanjhi, and Paraswada seats in Balaghat district, 55 booths in Mandla district’s Bichhiya and Mandla seats, and 40 polling stations in Naxalite-affected Dindori district have adjusted voting times from 7 AM to 3 PM. The adjusted voting times are due to security concerns. The election process covers 64,626 polling stations, allowing 5,60,60,925 eligible voters — 2,88,25,607 males, 2,72,33,945 females, and 1,373 individuals identifying as the third gender — to cast their votes.

Kamal Nath, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Jyotiraditya Scindia have casted their votes so far and there has been a voter turnout of 27.62 per cent till 11 am.

Jyotiraditya said that he is not in the race of becoming a CM while Shivraj Singh Chouhan was asked about the CM face. Chouhan replied that this is not important to him. 

“Our party makes the decision on who has to work where. We don’t think about ourselves, our mission is to work for the development of the country and Madhya Pradesh”, he said.
