Microsoft Using This New AI Feature To Improve Video Calling On Teams

The US-based tech giant Microsoft has announced an AI-based noise reduction feature for Teams calls, designed to minimise background noise and lower the volume of other participants in meetings.

Additionally, Teams also introduces a playful AI feature called “decorate your background,” enabling users to enhance their virtual workspace by decluttering or adding decorative elements like plants to the background.

The features were announced at Microsoft’s annual Ignite conference for developers and IT professionals. The company also introduced new changes and features for multiple products and services including Windows, Microsoft 365 and Azure.

The “decorate your background” feature in Microsoft Teams offers users a variety of enhancements for their workspaces. Starting in early 2024, this feature will be accessible to Teams Premium users. Simultaneously, Microsoft has initiated the rollout of the voice isolation feature, set to be generally available in early 2024.

Furthermore, Microsoft has disclosed the upcoming availability of immersive spaces in Teams, expected to be generally accessible in January 2024. This innovative feature will enable Teams users to craft avatars for participation in meetings within diverse 3D environments.

With this feature, users can engage in virtual games, roast virtual marshmallows, and even toss virtual beanbags for a relaxing virtual experience. The tool needed to create these immersive spaces, Microsoft Mesh, will also be available to everyone in January 2024.

Teams users will also have access to other important features, such as customisable emoji reactions and the ability to forward chats. Additionally, the platform allows users to set a group chat profile picture and add a private second phone number for specific callers.

In terms of shortcuts, Microsoft Teams is introducing new keyboard shortcuts, like using Alt+Shift+D to set your status to Do Not Disturb. The platform is also rolling out new tools for IT to manage teams more effectively.
