IMD has issued a rainfall warning for several states, including Odisha, West Bengal, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said that the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by Friday. The Met Office informed that the deep depression will have no major impact on Odisha as it will move towards the Bangladesh coast.
In view of this, IMD has issued a rainfall warning for several states, including Odisha, West Bengal, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Furthermore, a fresh easterly wave is anticipated to sweep across the region, resulting in isolated heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu and Kerala on November 19-20.

Deep depression over Bay of Bengal likely to intensify into cyclonic storm
The meteorological department said that the system is projected to move towards the Bangladesh coast instead. The deep depression was advancing in a north-northeast direction at a velocity of 20 kmph on Thursday.
“The system is likely to continue to move north-northeastwards, intensify further into a cyclonic storm over the next 24 hours and cross the Bangladesh coast between Mongla and Khepupara in the early hours of Saturday,” the IMD said.
“Guidance from various numerical models is indicating north-northeastwards movement towards Bangladesh coast,” the national weather agency added.

IMD’s rainfall warning
Coastal districts of West Bengal are expected to experience light to moderate rainfall at many places, with isolated instances of heavy rainfall on November 17.
The coastal districts of north Odisha are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall at many locations.
Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura may experience light to moderate rainfall at various places from November 16-18. Very heavy rainfall is anticipated at isolated locations over Mizoram and Tripura specifically on November 17.

South Assam and east Meghalaya are forecasted to have light to moderate rainfall at many places, with isolated heavy rainfall on November 18.
There is a high probability of light to moderate rainfall at certain locations, accompanied by isolated instances of heavy rainfall, over Tamil Nadu on November 17, 19 and 20. Additionally, similar weather conditions are expected in Kerala on November 20.
