Alia Bhatt addresses the outrage that happened after she said Ranbir Kapoor doesn’t like her sporting a lipstick and would ask her to ‘wipe that off.’
Alia Bhatt finally reacted to the internet calling Ranbir Kapoor ‘toxic’ and a ‘red flag.’ For the unversed, a few months ago, Ranbir was labelled as a ‘toxic’ person after Alia revealed that Ranbir doesn’t like her sporting lipstick and would ask her to ‘wipe that off’. There was a massive outrage. While Ranbir reacted to the outrage last month, Alia shared her thoughts on the controversy on Koffee With Karan 8. Speaking with Karan Johar, Alia said that Ranbir is opposite of what the internet has projected him to be.

“You have been accused of talking about him a lot,” Karan said, referring to her comments about Ranbir. Alia replied that that’s the reason she doesn’t want to talk about him. When asked to share her thoughts about the controversy, Alia said, “I have a very candid way of speaking so even when I’m talking about anything in my life, I like to imitate the person that I’m talking about, I like to give anecdotes, I like to make it personal. I feel like a lot of things just get picked out of context which happened recently.”

“My team told me, ‘This is going a little out of hand.’ And I was like, ‘It’s okay, let it be.’ because genuinely, people say things all the time. But then I realised that there are serious articles talking about how he’s a toxic man and this and that. And I’m like, ‘Are we serious?’ There are many issues in the world to talk and give more attention towards than talking about something I said in a completely different context. I think the only reason I felt bad, or feel bad is that if people misunderstand, is because he’s genuinely the opposite of all of that,” Alia added.
Karan agreed, adding that he is not what he’s projecting to be. “But don’t you feel like there’s also a line which I feel is being crossed. But you can’t say anything about it. People can say what they want. In fact, Ranbir says that ‘Alia, the audience owns you, they can say what the hell they want about you. As long as your movies are doing well, please do not complain sitting in your apartment in Bandra,” Alia said, adding that she agrees to his approach. Kareena Kapoor, who was also a guest on the show, agreed with Ranbir’s ideology so did Kareena.
Last month, speaking with his fans over a Zoom chat, Ranbir reacted to the controversy. He said, “Listen, I am on your side. Whatever you are fighting against this toxic masculinity, I am on the side of people who are fighting for it. So, if they want to use me as a face, I am fine because their fight is bigger than just me feeling bad about them having an opinion on what I said.”
