In a move to combat the escalating pollution levels in Delhi, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has doubled the parking fees at sites under its jurisdiction. Effective immediately, the measure is set to remain in effect until January 31, 2024.
The NDMC has raised the parking fees for both on-road and off-road parking to twice their previous rates.

The NDMC oversees a total of 91 parking locations within its area, directly managing 41 while outsourcing the rest. Notable areas under the NDMC’s parking management include high-traffic zones between Rajpath and AIIMS, such as Sarojini Nagar market, Khan Market, Lodhi Road, INA, AIIMS, and Safdarjung.
The decision aligns with the Graded Action Response Plan (GRAP) Stage IV guidelines, which are currently active due to the city’s deteriorating air quality. Under GRAP, the government categorizes necessary actions based on air quality indices (AQI), with Stage IV indicating ‘Severe Plus’ conditions where AQI levels exceed 450.
