Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number (UID) issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to Indian residents and NRIs. If you have lost your physical Aadhaar card or Aadhaar number, you can report it to UIDAI’s toll-free number 1947 or online at its official portal. This will help prevent misuse of your Aadhaar number.
Also, avoid sharing your Aadhaar number with unauthorised individuals or organisations. Do not store your Aadhaar number in unsecured places like public computers or cloud storage.

According to the information available on the UIDAI portal, if you’ve lost or misplaced your Aadhaar card, there are several ways to retrieve it or get a new one.
Here are the options available:
- Resident can find his Aadhaar number using Aadhaar Service – Retrieve Lost UID/EID available on https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/
- Residents can call 1947 where contact centre agent will help them in getting EID number. The resident can further use this EID to download his/her eAadhaar from Resident Portal – eAadhaar
- Resident can also get Aadhaar number from EID number on IVRS system by calling 1947

In case your mobile number is registered with Aadhaar, you can find your EID or Aadhaar by clicking on the;
- “Retrieve Lost or Forgotten UID/EID” under ‘Get Aadhaar’ section of tab ‘My Aadhaar’ on Retrieve EID/UID. website or Retrieve EID/UID.).
- Select the EID/UID you want to retrieve and then enter your name and mobile number or email id (as registered with Aadhaar).
- You will receive your EID/ Aadhaar number delivered on your mobile number or email id.

Lost Enrolment ID slip/ Aadhaar letter: Way of finding the same when mobile number is not registered with Aadhaar
- The residents who have lost their EID, can know the EID by calling 1947
- CRM operators shall collect the basic demographic data and if demographic information provided by the resident matches in the records, the operator provides the EID to the resident.
- After EID is communicated, the resident is advised to call 1947 again and get the Aadhaar through IVRS by providing EID. However, if the resident does not provide proper and correct demographic information, he/she may not get the desired information related to EID.
Also residents can visit the nearest Aadhaar center and get a copy of the e-Aadhaar by using the print Aadhaar service by providing their EID and mobile number.
