While the circumstances in the video appear disconcerting, it is not the first time that SpiceJet has faced passenger dissatisfaction due to flight delays.
A few months ago, in August, a scheduling error led to SpiceJet passengers venting their frustration at Mumbai Airport as they argued about a delay of more than three hours with the ground staff. A video from the scene captured irate travellers and airport personnel involved in a dispute in the vicinity of a SpiceJet flight.

The flight, originally slated for boarding at 6 p.m., had not commenced the boarding process even by 9 in the evening. Additionally, passengers received no advance notification of the delay, leaving them frustrated.
Talking about the flight delays, a report from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for the month of May revealed that only 61% of SpiceJet’s flights departed on time from India’s four major airports: Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. This figure marked a decrease from the 70% on-time departure rate reported in April. SpiceJet reportedly operates around 250 flights daily, as per Bloomberg.
Air India, India’s second-largest carrier, slipped from being second in punctuality to fifth place, with nearly double the number of flight delays in May compared to April. Throughout all of this, Akasa Air emerged as the most punctual, although its performance has exhibited a decline, with 93% of its flights departing on time. India’s largest carrier, IndiGo, maintained a 90% on-time departure rate in May.
