Mumbai to launch eco-friendly electric water taxis in December, cutting travel time and emissions, heralding a new era in urban water transportation.
Mumbai is about to witness a remarkable change in its transportation landscape with the introduction of electric water taxis this coming December.
These innovative watercraft are set to bridge the gap between the iconic Gateway of India in South Mumbai and Belapur in Navi Mumbai, offering a sustainable and efficient travel option for both residents and visitors.
Infinity Harbour Service, a prominent private water taxi operator, has made a substantial investment by acquiring four state-of-the-art electric water taxis, each carrying a price tag of approximately Rs 2.5 crore.
As a testament to their commitment to sustainable transportation, two 24-seater electric water taxis are currently undergoing rigorous trial runs in the scenic shores of Goa, while an additional two six-seater water taxis are being put through their paces in the beautiful waterways of Kochi.

Sohel Kazani, Managing Partner of Infinity Harbour Service, declared that the 24-seater electric water taxi is poised to take center stage on the route connecting the Gateway of India in South Mumbai to Belapur in Navi Mumbai. It’s a momentous step towards eco-conscious water transportation.
One of the most remarkable features of these electric water taxis is their energy efficiency. They can run continuously for four hours on a single charge, a stark contrast to the 140 liters of diesel consumed per hour by their traditional counterparts. This not only promises substantial cost savings but also represents a significant step towards a greener, more sustainable future for Mumbai’s water transport system.

Infinity Harbour Service is already making waves in the water taxi industry, currently operating services between Belapur and the famous Elephanta Caves, as well as in the enchanting Mandwa Alibaug. The response to these routes has been favorable, particularly on weekends, with an impressive tally of three trips per route, each ferrying around 15-20 passengers, according to the operator.
With the introduction of electric water taxis, Mumbai is not just embracing a more sustainable future but also ensuring smoother and quicker connectivity between key locations in the city.
