Apart from gold, BIS Care App also tracks the silver ornaments. The app is only meant for hallmarked gold and silver items. The BIS Care App provides real-time update to the buyers about the authenticity of the jewellery.

What’s HUID?
HUID stands for Hallmark Unique Identification Number. The Department of Consumer Affairs website says that e Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID) number is a distinctive alphanumeric code consisting of six characters, which includes both letters and digits. During the hallmarking process, every individual piece of jewelry is allocated a one-of-a-kind HUID number. This unique number is physically imprinted onto the jewelry through hand-stamping at the Assaying & Hallmarking center.
Since April 1st, 2023, sale of gold items or jewelry has been banned across the country. All kind of gold items are required to have the six-digit HUID. This alphanumeric identity of the gold items helps the nodal agency in tracking the sale and purchase made at jewelers. In 2021, there was a revision of the HUID structure. As against four or five, now the HUID has three symbols. The structure of hallmarking is – BIS hallmark, followed by grade of purity and then the 6-digit alphanumeric number (HUID).

How to download BIS Care App?
a: Locate and install the BIS Care app.
b: Once the app is downloaded, open it.
c: Provide your name, phone number, and email address.
d: Verify your phone number and email by entering the OTP (One-Time Password).
How to use BIS Care App
As per a tweet from the official BIS Twitter account, you can verify the authenticity of hallmarked jewelry by utilizing the “verify HUID” feature within the BIS Care App.
