Tamil Nadu Tea Estate Gifts Royal Enfield Bikes To Employees As Diwali Bonus; Video Goes Viral

As a token of appreciation ahead of Diwali, a tea estate owner in Tamil Nadu gifted Royal Enfield bikes to his employees.

Although Navratri has concluded, Diwali – the much-awaited festival of lights – is just around the corner. With the entire country indulging in the festive fever, it is also the time when employees receive a Diwali bonus. While organisations usually provide bonuses in the form of cash or gift vouchers, a company has recently hit headlines for offering a one-of-a-kind bonus to its employees. As per the latest information, a tea estate located in the Kotagiri town of Nilgiri district has adopted an exceptional approach by gifting Royal Enfield bikes to its employees as a Diwali bonus.

Sounds surprising? P Sivakumar, a native of Vanajipalayam in Tirupur owns a 190-acre tea estate along with vegetable and flower gardens in the rest of his property near Kotagiri. Around 627 employees have been working in the tea state for the last two decades. Kumar, who has been working on the units for several decades, earlier used to gift household appliances and cash bonuses to his employees on Diwali. However, this year, as a token of appreciation for their contribution, he decided to give them bikes worth rupees over Rs 2 lakh.

The 42-year-old man gifted bikes to 15 of his employees including his manager, supervisor, storekeeper, cashier, field staff, and drivers. According to a New Indian Express report, Sivakumar expressed how the employees have contributed to the growth of his tea estate. “Having bought them electronic appliances in the past, I wanted to give bikes to the few workers,” he said, further adding that a few workers were also gifted with LCD TVs and an 18 per cent bonus ahead of the festival season.

The kind-hearted real estate owner also appointed two teachers in the Nedugula Panchayat Primary School near the estate for the workers’ children who wanted to admit their kids to English medium schools. The school, which was earlier on the verge of closure, currently has a strength of 320 students, of which 80 are from the estate. Besides, Sivakumar also runs a pharmacy where workers receive free of cost medicines.

A video of the tea estate workers being facilitated with the newly purchased bikes has also surfaced online. In the video shared by PTI on X (formerly known as Twitter), the estate owner can be seen gifting the employees with bikes as a token of appreciation.
