The Met Office has issued rainfall warnings for several states including – Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam and Meghalaya.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday night informed that Cyclone Hamoon intensified into a ‘very severe’ cyclonic storm, and it moved east-northeastwards during the past 6 hours over the Bay of Bengal.

“Very Severe Cyclonic Storm “Hamoon” (pronounced as Hamoon) over Northwest & adjoining Northeast Bay of Bengal. It is likely to weaken gradually and cross Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Chittagong around evening of 25th October as a cyclonic storm with wind speed of 65 to 75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph,” said IMD.
Cyclone Tej loses power
On the other hand, the very severe Cyclonic storm ‘Tej’ crossed the Yemen coast on Tuesday, and is likely to weaken into a cyclonic storm, as per IMD scientists. The meteorological agency also mentioned that the storm is highly expected to continue its north-westward trajectory.
The meteorological department also said that the “Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Tej” (pronounced as Tej) has made landfall on Yemen’s coast and subsequently weakened into a severe cyclonic storm along the coastal region of Yemen. The IMD also forecasts that it is highly likely to continue moving further north-westward and gradually weaken into a cyclonic storm over the next 6 hours.
Rainfall warning issued for 7 states
Meanwhile, owing to very severe cyclonic storm Hamoon, the Met Office has issued rainfall warnings for several states including – Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam and Meghalaya.

In the regions of Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, as well as south Assam and Meghalaya, the weather office has predicted light to moderate rainfall across most areas. Isolated instances of heavy rainfall are expected over Mizoram and Tripura today. On October 26, there may be light to moderate rainfall in numerous locations throughout Mizoram and Tripura. Furthermore, from October 24-26, many places in Nagaland and Manipur are very likely to experience light to moderate rainfall, along with east Arunachal Pradesh on October 25-26.
Moreover, on October 24, heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated places over Kerala and heavy rainfall at isolated places over Tamil Nadu. The similar weather conditions are likely to prevail over the region for the next few days.
