The unique ‘Bicycle Garba’ celebration was hosted by the Surat District Cricket Association.
The festival of Navratri is a blend of devotion and dance. Every year the auspicious occasion is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm in India. Be it Dandiya nights, Navratri fashion shows, or food festivals, people tend to come up with unique concepts to enjoy the nine days that honour Goddess Durga. The first day of Navratri began on Sunday, October 16, and the city of Surat marked it in an unusual way. The district’s cricket association organized a ‘Bicycle Garba’ spree which was attended by a large number of people. Footage of the celebration was shared online on X by the news agency ANI.

The clip featured enthusiastic participants moving in circles as traditional tunes of a Garba song played in the background. People donned matching jerseys, high-fiving one another to kick-start the first day of Navratri. “Surat District Cricket Association organises ‘Bicycle Garba’, as celebrations begin on the first day of Navratri,” ANI captioned the clip.

The unusual way of Garba has caught the attention of many social media users. While some appreciated the idea, many called it bizarre. A user commented, “Gujjus and their antiques.”

Another wrote, “A unique one.”
One more joked, “What next airplane Garba?”

But there were many who accused the organisers of spoiling the true essence of Garba which involves dancing enthusiastically. A user couldn’t fathom, “Why but why?”
Another added, “Just to gain attraction by doing something ‘hatt ke’ they are crushing the original essence of Garba.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Navratri with a special note addressing the country. “Heartiest wishes to all of you for the Navratri festival starting today. May Maa Nav Durga bring peace, prosperity, and health into your life! Bol Mari Ambe Jai Jai Ambe,” he wrote on X.
In addition to this, the PM also revealed a Garba song titled Maadi which was composed by Meet Bros and Divya Kumar. “As the auspicious Navratri dawns upon us, I am delighted to share a Garba penned by me during the past week. Let the festive rhythms embrace everyone! I thank Meet Bros, Divya Kumar for giving voice and music to this Garba,” he stated.
The celebration of Navratri will conclude with Dussehra on Tuesday, October 24.
