Rohit has now become the seventh-highest all-time run-getter in ODI World Cup history. He has now scored 1195 runs in 20 matches in ODI World Cups. The India skipper is only behind Sachin Tendulkar (2278 runs), Ricky Ponting (1743 runs), Kumar Sangakkara (1532 runs), Brian Lara (1225 runs), AB de Villiers (1207 runs) and Shakib Al Hasan (1201 runs) in terms of runs scored in ODI World Cups.
The ‘Hitman’ also registered the highest score by an India captain against Pakistan in ODI World Cups, while also becoming just the third batter and first Indian to hit 300 sixes in one-day internationals. Rohit joined Chris Gayle (331 sixes) and Shahid Afridi (351 sixes) in the elite list of players to hit more than 300 maximums in ODIs.
Rohit scored 86 runs off 63 balls, smashing six boundaries and as many sixes against Pakistan. He went hell for leather against Pakistan while chasing 192 runs in Ahmedabad. The Indian skipper took the attack to Pakistan’s pacers from the word go, smashing Shaheen Shah Afridi for a boundary on the first ball of the second innings.
The Men in Green failed to capitalize on a good start and managed to drag themselves to an under-par total of 191 runs in Ahmedabad. This is Pakistan’s third-lowest total against India in the history of ODI World Cups and the lowest against India in this tournament while batting first.
Babar Azam scored 50 runs off 59 balls, while Rizwan chipped in with 49 runs to guide Pakistan to 191. It was a pitiful display from Pakistan’s middle and lower order as they crumbled to a total of 191 runs in Ahmedabad.
