ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table Update: India Jump to 2nd Spot After Big Win, Afghanistan Last

India have jumped to the second spot in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 points table which is being led by New Zealand.

A red-hot show with the bat saw India cruise to a facile eight-wicket win over Afghanistan in their second match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. It was India captain Rohit Sharma who lit up the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the New Delhi with a record-breaking century and made 131 off 84 to put India in control.

He belted 16 fours and clubbed five sixes, providing wholesome entertainment to the capacity crowd gathered at the venue. India chased down 273 in 35 overs for their second win while Afghanistan have now lost their second game on the trot.

India have now four points after two matches. That they chased down the total with 90 deliveries to spare has boosted their net run rate to 1.5 and thus helped them jump from the fourth to the second spot on the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 points table.

India next take on Pakistan in their third match of the tournament which will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

New Zealand Keep Top Spot

New Zealand are still at the top of the Cricket World Cup 2023 Points Table

thanks to a superior net run rate of 1.958. They beat England and the Netherlands to start their campaign with two victories as well.

Pakistan, South Africa in Top-four

Pakistan have slipped to the third spot despite four points. They have a net run rate of 0.927. South Africa complete the top-four with two points from one match and an excellent net run rate of 2.040 thanks to their record win over Sri Lanka last week.

Four Teams Looking for First Points

As many as four teams are yet to win a match including five-time world champions Australia. Sri Lanka, Netherlands and Afghanistan have lost both their matches while Australia suffered defeat in their world cup opener to India.

The Pat Cummins-led side returns to action on Thursday when they take on a red-hot South Africa in Lucknow.
