PhonePe’s Indus Appstore offers free first-year listing, zero commission on payments

Mumbai: PhonePe has launched its native Android-based platform for mobile application developers – Indus Appstore. The advantages for app developers are that listing will be free for the first year, and they can collect subscriptions from users without paying any commission.

“Despite being such a large consumer market, app developers have always been forced to work with only one app store – Google Playstore – for distributing their apps. Indus Appstore hopes to provide app developers a credible alternative to the Google Playstore – one that is more localized and offers better app discovery and consumer engagement,” said Akash Dongre, CPO & Co-Founder, Indus Appstore.

“We are excited to open up the Indus Appstore Developer Platform today. We invite all developers to list their app on the Made-in-India app store,” said Akash Dongre, CPO & Co-Founder, Indus Appstore.

Indus Appstore will have a dedicated destination called “Launch Pad” to provide these new apps with better visibility and search optimization. It will offer developer tools and features that address the challenges most Android developers face, including a dedicated round-the-clock customer support team based in India. Besides, developers can list their app in 12 Indian languages besides English and boost brand awareness with videos.

Other features include a cohort-based targeted release management feature allowing developers to roll out newer app versions to relevant user cohorts.

Developers can also use the AI-powered real-time monitoring of app vitals during a new version launch. There are other tools, including real-time analytics, insights on industry trends, and competitor analysis, to help developers adopt best practices.

PhonePe has claimed that app updates will be faster and more intelligent on the platform, enabling users to get updated to the latest version much faster.

Last year, PhonePe acquired OSLabs. IndusOs’ 100 employees including founders Akash Dongre, Rakesh Deshmukh and Surdhir Bangarambandi were part of the deal.
