OnePlus has already confirmed its foldable phone is launching this year. The OnePlus Open is the product that is rumoured to launch in October and now reports say the company could announce the product on October 19 which is less than a month away. The OnePlus Open is claimed to be a challenger to Samsung’s foldable lineup but the company seems to be taking a different route when it comes to pricing the product.

OnePlus first announced its foldable ambitions during the launch of the OnePlus 11 series earlier this year in India. The company has also said that the Open foldable will be launched in countries like India, which is one of its important markets.

The company had to delay the launch of its foldable device. It is assumed that the company has made a last-minute decision to change the display vendor from BOE to using panels from Samsung. It is likely that OnePlus felt the performance of the BOE display was not up to the mark for its product, and hence going with Samsung’s panel felt like the obvious decision.

It is also reported that OnePlus will launch its foldable at a lower price than the Galaxy Z Fold 5 model that was announced for over Rs 1.5 lakh in India this year. It is likely that OnePlus is aware that the brand cannot afford to compete price-wise with brands like Samsung that have the resources and expertise to operate in a higher bracket.

The OnePlus Open leaks have given us a good idea about the focus of the company, now that it is expected to be powered by the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. OnePlus could opt for a 2K AMOLED display, courtesy of Samsung, which should offer 120Hz refresh rate. OnePlus could use its Hasselblad partnership to power the cameras but more importantly, pack a bigger battery with support for fast charging.
