The actor was roped in as the main lead for Darr and was promised significant screen time by director Yash Chopra. But after the film was released, he realised his role in the final cut was not as described. In another instance, while working with director Pankaj Parashar for the film Chaalbaaz, the actor faced quite a similar situation.
In both cases, directors had promised significant screen time to Sunny Deol only to fall short of these commitments once the films were released. Disheartened by these experiences, Sunny Deol decided not to work with these directors again.

The actor experienced his first betrayal during the 1993 blockbuster film Darr where he raised serious allegations against the film’s director, Yash Chopra. Darr marked Sunny Deol’s first collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan on-screen, with Juhi Chawla as the film’s leading lady.
The film received immense love from the audience and performed exceptionally well at the box office. At the same time, Sunny was saddened by his role in the film. Reports revealed that despite Sunny and Shah Rukh being billed as equal leads, Sunny felt that the film predominantly centred around Shah Rukh.
After experiencing a parallel situation during the 1989 release of Chaalbaaz, Sunny Deol made a firm vow not to work with the same director again. Chaalbaaz marked his first collaboration with Rajinikanth and the film’s female lead was Sridevi.
As reported on IMDb, Sunny Deol initially declined the offer of Chaalbaaz. When the director refused to meet his request, he laid down a condition: he would only participate in the movie as a special appearance, not as a lead actor. Regrettably, director Pankaj Parashar did not agree to this condition.
The director convinced Sunny Deol to take the lead role in the film by promising him a stronger character as compared to Rajinikanth. Reluctantly, he agreed to the project but was upset with the director after the film’s release. As per reports, Sunny felt deceived, as the role described to him was not how it was portrayed in the movie.
Sunny Deol is soon going to be seen in a slew of upcoming projects including Apne 2, Soorya, Baap, Fateh Singh, Shooutout at Byculla and Janmabhoomi.
