Foreigner Slams Indian Street Food Preparation, Gets Served With ‘Sizzling’ Comebacks

Viral video of street food being prepared in unhygienic conditions makes foreigner question the Indian cuisine. Internet users troll him for putting only India in negative light.

Time and time again, we witness videos showcasing unhygienic food preparation methods surfacing on various social media platforms. However, this issue isn’t confined to a specific region; it extends across multiple areas, irrespective of whether they have been exposed to it or not. So, when a foreigner recently shared a viral video depicting the preparation of Indian food while criticising it, food enthusiasts from all over the globe, especially Desis, swiftly served up ‘sizzling’ comebacks to showcase similar instances globally. Thus, the social media post went viral, sparking a flurry of replies and retorts.

A user named Ian Miles Cheong posted the video with the caption, “How Indian street food is prepared. Would you eat it?” The video showcases the process of creating dough from flour, commencing with the mixing of the dough using bare hands and proceeding to knead it in a similar manner. Subsequently, the video depicts the formation of large dough balls, which are spread using bare hands before being cooked on a griddle with generous amounts of ghee or butter.

While many viewers identified the dish as Paratha served with Halwa, others likened it to a large Bhature. Although the video may be critiqued for its lack of hygiene, what stirred the online community was the singling out of India for criticism.

“In italy they crush grapes with their FEET to make the wine and everyone loves it and thinks it’s so cool and authentic but if a brown man cooks food with his hands and everyone loses their mind,” remarked one user. Another added humourously, “Yes. Still better than eating snakes, frogs and octopus.”

“I’m an Indian and trust me this is very rare, Ian. Majority of Indian vendors maintain hygiene or else there would be health outbreaks. Not defending the guy here but please do not judge the country from one video. Request,” urged a third individual. A fourth user pointed out, “This is how Malaysian food is prepared, spitting in the food. Would u eat it?”

Since being shared, the post has garnered over 19 million views on ‘X’.
