Stock market holiday: BSE, NSE to remain closed on September 19 on occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi

Stock markets in India will remain closed on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, on account of Ganesh Chaturthi festival.

Ganesh Chaturthi is an Indian festival, dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the revered elephant-headed deity symbolizing wisdom and prosperity.

Trading activities, such as – equity, equity derivatives, currency derivatives, interest rate derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB), will remain suspended on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on September 19.

In addition to the stock exchanges, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also remain closed in the morning session, which runs from 9 am to 5 pm on trading days.

However, MCX will resume trading for the evening session on the same day, from 5 pm to either 11:30 pm or 11:55 pm, as per its usual schedule.Ganesh Chaturthi, also referred to as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is an annual Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesha, renowned as the remover of obstacles and the bearer of good fortune.

The festival extends for ten days, with grand celebrations predominantly witnessed in Maharashtra, particularly in Mumbai.
