Sony will launch the flagship WF-1000XM5 wireless earbuds with active noise cancellation in India on October 27, 2023. The XM5s are follow-up to last year’s benchmark-setting WF-1000XM4s designed to bring even better noise cancellation and improved audio inside an even more compact chassis. The WF-1000XM5s are technically up to 25 percent smaller and about 20 percent lighter than the XM4s. Under the hood, they pack Sony’s V2 processor and QN2e noise cancelling chip. They feature the company’s Dynamic Driver X and six microphones in each earbud. Globally, they ship with polyurethane foam ear tips for tighter passive cancellation, but we’ll have to see if Sony does the same in India because with the WF-1000XM4s, it had swapped them for more conventional silicone tips.

Sony was apparently aware of the issue and in a recent statement given to The Verge, it had said the XM5s won’t have this battery drain issues thanks to a more optimised charging algorithm. But we’ll see.
