Food vendors in China are now serving ‘Grilled Ice Cubes’. The dish is served with sauces and spices. Read this to know more about this bizarre food item.
We are all familiar with the concept of fusion food. It involves the amalgamation of unique ingredients to come up with a bizarre recipe. But who would have thought of grilled ice as a dish? Yes, you read that right. According to reports, Chinese social media is full of videos of people grilling ice and then seasoning it with various sauces. This bizarre combination is not just a new trend among people but has also become a popular dish in China.

As per a report by The Sun, one TikTok user explained the new craze in his post. He said “The snack is made by grilling ice over fire and covering it in sauce and spices. The form of ice can range from conventional ice cube to frozen water bottle, or even icicle. It can be eaten both hot and cold as long as it’s done before it melts.”
The dish is now popular in Northern China and he explained it as a “gimmick for tourists.”

‘X’ page ‘Yup That Exists’ also uploaded a video of the same. In the video, you can see ice cubes being spread on a grill. Once removed, the chef quickly pours some sauces over them. Further, he garnishes it with some seasonings. The cubes which then become slightly smaller are covered in heavy spices. The final dish is then served on a tray.

This is not the first time that a bizarre dish is being served in China. Earlier, the internet found that stir-fried pebbles were being sold at a food stall at a night market in China. According to the South China Morning Post, the video shared on Chinese social media showed a vendor in the central Chinese province of Hunan selling stir-fried small river rocks with chilli, garlic, purple perilla and rosemary. The dish was being sold for 16 Yuan (Rs 184) per serving.
