A popular retirement benefits scheme in India, the Employees’ Provident Fund functions under the Employees Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Act, 1952. Through EPF an employee has to make certain contributions for his future savings. The scheme is managed by the Employee Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). Not just employees but the employer also make an equal contribution on a monthly basis. Upon retirement, the employee receives a lump sum amount with interest. Almost every organisation with 20 or more employees are covered under the scheme. Those with less than 20 employees are also covered under the scheme, however, with certain conditions and exemptions.

EPF Interest Rate for 2022-23
The interest rate on the Employees’ Provident Fund is reviewed every year by the EPFO. The interest rate for FY 2022-23 has been fixed at 8.15 per cent and it will remain valid for the next financial year. The interest will be applicable on all EPF deposits that were made between the months of April 2022 and March 2023.
EPF Eligibility
1. Employee must be a citizen of India.
2. The employee must be an active member of the scheme.
3. He/she must work at an organisation that has 20 or more employees and the company should be registered with the EPFO.
4. Employer must receive a monthly salary of Rs 15,000, including the basic wages and dearness allowance.

How to login into EPF account?
1. Visit the official EPFO website at https://www.epfindia.gov.in/site_en/index.php
2. On the homepage, go to the ‘Services’ section and click on ‘For Employees’.
3. A new page will open where you need to click on ‘Member UAN/Online Service (OCS/OTCP)’.
4. Click on Member UAN.
5. On the new page, enter your UAN, password, and the captcha details that have been provided.
6. After signing in, you will be directed to the employee’s EPFO portal.
How to check EPF balance?
You can check your EPF balance online through the EPFO’s official portal.
1. Go to the EPF Member Portal at https://passbook.epfindia.gov.in/MemberPassBook/Login.jsp.
2. Login with your UAN and password.
3. The EPF passbook will be visible on the screen.
Besides visiting the portal, employees can also check their EPF balance through the UMANG App, through SMS, or through missed calls.

How to withdraw EPF?
Employees can make a withdrawal claim by filing an EPF withdrawal online form on the UAN member portal.
1. Go to the portal at https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/ and sign in with your UAN and Password.
2. From the top menu, choose ‘Online Services’ and click on select ‘Claim (Form-31, 19 & 10C)’ from the drop-down menu.
3. Verify your KYC details and next choose the type of withdrawal like full withdrawal or partial withdrawal.
4. A fresh form will appear on the screen. Fill in with the necessary details and submit.
5. After your employer approves the request online, the claim will be processed automatically and the money will be credited to your bank account.
