Ayoung woman in Uttar Pradesh‘s Noida became entangled in a troubling fraud scenario that resulted in a substantial loss of Rs 5 lakh and 40 thousand, according to The NavBharat Times report. Following her complaint, the cybercrime police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

Geetanjali Singh, a resident of Noida’s Sector 34 in the Dhawalgiri Apartment, shared her ordeal to local police station. She recounted how a seemingly innocuous WhatsApp message reached her on May 8, offering a part-time job opportunity.
The Navbharat Times report added that intrigued by the prospect, Geetanjali was prompted to join a Telegram Group as instructed. In exchange for an initial payment of Rs 50, she was promised Rs 500 upon completing the tasks assigned within the group. However, as time passed, the situation took a grave turn. The fraudster surreptitiously began making withdrawals from various bank accounts linked to Geetanjali.

According to the report, eventually, a staggering amount of Rs 5 lakh and 40 thousand was siphoned from her accounts. What initially appeared as a potentially lucrative investment converted into a harrowing fraud. It wasn’t until she realized the mounting financial losses that the true nature of the situation hit her. To her dismay, each time Geetanjali requested the promised amount, the fraudster’s response was negative – she was promptly removed from the Telegram Group, and the contact number from which the original message had come was also inactive.
