Twitter Blue introduces ‘hide your blue checkmark’ feature for subscribers, Elon Musk reveals about future logo changes

After introducing a paid subscription service that charges $8 for a blue verification badge on Twitter,  Twitter Chairman Elon Musk has come up with a new feature for the microblogging website that will allow subscribers to hide their blue tick on their accounts.

The microblogging site now offers the subscribers the option on its help page to choose hide the checkmark through which the blue tick will be concealed on their profiles and posts. However, it might still appear in some instances, and certain features may reveal that the account has an active subscription. During the period when the checkmark is hidden, some features may not be accessible, but Twitter plans to improve and refine this feature over time.

The option to hide blue checkmark is visible on the ‘profile customization’ page in the account settings for Twitter Blue subscribers, news agency ANI reported quoting Mashable.

Twitter initially introduced the blue checkmark system in 2009 to help users identify authentic accounts of celebrities, politicians, companies, brands, news organisations and other public figures. Previously, there was no verification service charge by the company.

Last year, shortly after taking over the company, Musk launched Twitter Blue with the blue checkmark badge as one of the premium perks.

On April 1, Twitter removed blue ticks from verified accounts, following the implementation of the paid subscription service that charges $8 for a blue verification badge. As a result, various prominent personalities, including Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt, politicians CM Yogi Adityanath, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, and cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma lost their verified blue ticks temporarily, while others had the badge restored after a few days.

Recently, on July 24, Twitter replaced its iconic bird logo with the letter “X” as the new official mark. Elon Musk referred to this design as an “interim” one, hinting at potential future logo changes. According to a report by US-based tech portal TechCrunch, it is likely that Twitter will continue to change its logo, eventually moving away from the Twitter brand and its bird emblem, as mentioned by Musk. He had earlier mentioned that the number of monthly users on social media site X had reached a new high after certain organisational changes.
