New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be leading the SCO Summit 2023 tomorrow, July 4, 2023. The 23rd Shanghai Cooperation Organisation will be hosted in India in virtual mode. Amongst all the attendees, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladmir Putin will be participating in the SCO Summit tomorrow.

After his successful visit to the US, PM Modi will be leading the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting virtually. With the 23rd SCO Summit, India is expected to raise the concerns of the Global South in the context of the challenges which rose with the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine Conflict in February 2022.
As per reports, the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan is expected to be discussed during the summit. The SCO Summit tomorrow will also mark Russian President Vladmir Putin’s first multilateral meeting since the Wagner insurrection in Moscow.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also reported to be participating in the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting tomorrow. Furthermore, heads of six international and regional organisations such as the United Nations, ASEAN, CIS, CSTO, EAEU, and CICA have also been invited.
About the SCO Summit 2023
India has announced that the theme for the SCO Summit this year is – Towards a SECURE SCO. With SECURE being an acronym for Security; Economy and Trade; Connectivity; Unity; Respect for Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity; and Environment.

The SCO Summit 2023 will be attended by Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan Uzbekistan, Russia, China and Pakistan. Iran will officially become a member tomorrow – July 4, 2023. Belarus and Mongolia have also been invited as observer states and Turkmenistan has been invited as the guest of the Chair.
What is the SCO Summit?
Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, SCO is a security grouping founded by Russia and Chine to counter western alliances from East Asia to the Indian Ocean. India will be hosting the SCO Summit this year after becoming a member in 2017.
