7th pay commission DA Hike: Starting July 1, central government employees got a tremendous increase of four per cent (from 42 per cent to 46 per cent) in their dearness allowance (DA).
7th pay commission DA Hike: Central employees have been long waiting for July 1 as it was the date their dearness allowance was to be hiked significantly. Beginning July, all central government employees will get a jump of up to 46 per cent in their DA. It is a direct four per cent jump from DA’s earlier rate of 42 per cent. The DA score for the month of May has been released. According to the AICPI index, there has been a gain of 0.50 points in the May score.

How the new DA is calculated
The DA of central government employees is decided on the basis of the All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI). AICPI numbers are released at the end of every month. On the basis of these numbers, the DA score is revised/calculated after every 6 months. The CPI (IW) BY 2001 = 100 stood at 134.7 in May as against 134.02 in April. There has been a big jump of 0.50 points in the AICPI index.

Confirmed dearness allowance
Experts were already claiming that there would be a 4 per cent increase in DA. But now the AICPI index has confirmed their assumption. There has also been a big jump in the DA score. As per the current data, the DA score has reached 45.58 per cent. However, the AICPI numbers for June are yet to come. But a hike of 4 per cent in DA is confirmed.
How much has the DA score increased month by month?
Under the 7th Pay Commission, the Labour Bureau has released the numbers of the AICPI Index (Industrial Workers) for 5 months. Among these, the index was strong in January. There was a slight decline in February. But the DA score increased in February. There was a good jump in the index in March, too. The index had increased from 132.7 points to 133.3 points. A big jump was also seen in April, when the index reached 134.02 and the DA score reached 45.04 per cent.
May’s number has added more enthusiasm. The June numbers will be released at the end of July.
