DELHI: Delhi Police Special Cell has busted two interstate narcotics cartels and arrested six people with drugs valued at Rs 85 crore in the international market, officials said.
The accused were identified as Lakhpat Singh (43), Prakash Puri (39), Taslima Begum (38), Dal Chand (36), Ravi Prakash (34), and Suresh (24).
Special commissioner of police (Special Cell) H G S Dhaliwal said 101. 62 kg of opium and 2 kg of heroin and cash worth Rs 7. 5 lakh were seized from the accused.
Acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap on April 23 at Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar and nabbed Singh and Suresh, officials said. They recovered 5. 31 kg of opium from Singh’s possession and found 96. 31 kg of opium in 682 gunny bags containing coconuts in their truck.

“During the investigation, a team went to Kichha in Uttrakhand and arrested Chand, the key member of the cartel,” the officer said, adding that Puri was arrested from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh and cash worth Rs 7. 5 lakh was seized from his house.
Begum was arrested after police received a tip-off. Later, Vicky was also caught. Singh used to procure opium from the Jharkhand-based suppliers on Chand’s instructions.
