Gandhinagar: Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, a convict in the Umesh Pal kidnapping case, on Tuesday alleged that he will be killed as he was being taken to Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj from Gujarat’s Sabarmati Jail. “It is not right. They want to kill me,” Atiq Ahmed said on being taken to UP’s Prayagraj from Gujarat’s jail for production in a murder case. The Uttar Pradesh Police reached Sabarmati Jail earlier today to bring Ahmed to Prayagraj, under a production warrant after the consent of the court.

Atiq fears encounter
Atiq Ahmed approached the Supreme Court last month claiming he and his family have been falsely implicated as accused in the Umesh Pal case and expressed apprehension that he might get killed in a fake encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Police.

The top court, however, rejected his plea but granted him liberty to approach Allahabad High Court for protection over his claim that his life is under threat.
Refusing to record Atiq Ahmed’s life is under threat, the apex court said that the Uttar Pradesh state machinery will take care of his protection. “It is not a case where this court is going to interfere. Liberty granted to move appropriate application before the High Court. Whatever is the process prescribed under law will be followed,” the Supreme Court bench was quoted as saying by PTI.
