It isn’t every day that you hear about a glitch that actually credits extra money to users. In a rare such incident, a number of internet users reported that they got a couple extra dollars credited to their Google Pay accounts. The amount of these transactions ranged from USD 10 to USD 1,000 (approx Rs 80,000 when converted to INR).

However, the happiness of these users was rather short-lived as the company soon realised its mistake and reversed the credited amount in cases where it was possible to do so. However, in cases where the users had already transferred or spent the money, Google said that the money was for the users to keep, and no further action was necessary.

Google Pay glitch gives money to users
Journalist Mishaal Rahman shared his experience with the glitch on Twitter. He wrote, “Uhhh, Google Pay seems to just be randomly giving users free money right now. I just opened Google Pay and saw that I have $46 in “rewards” that I got “for dogfooding the Google Pay Remittance experience.” What.”
Rahman also mentioned how should people check if they have received the ‘rewards’ or not. He wrote, “Open GPay, swipe to the “Deals” tab, and see if you have any “rewards” near the top. That’s where I’m seeing this. I suspect this is an error, so that money is just gonna sit in my account for now lol.”

Several Reddit users also shared their experience with the same. A user mentioned how he got a whopping USD 1072 credit to his account while another user mentioned how they got USD 240 credited.
Elon Musk also reacted to a news report talking about the incident and wrote, ‘Noice’.
Google reverses the payments
However, Google has now reversed all these payments wherever it was possible. Rahman shared in another tweet about the same and shared the email that he received from the company. The email starts off by talking about the error and mentions how the payment has been reversed in some cases.
It reads, “You received this email because an unintended cash credit was deposited to your Google Pay account. The Issue has since been resolved and where possible, the credit has been reversed.” We’re going to guess that anyone who left the money in their Google Pay account had it taken out, but for those who spent or transferred the money, Google adds, “If we were not able to reverse the credit, the money is yours to keep. No further action is necessary.”
