New Delhi: Several parts of India, including Punjab and Haryana, are likely to witness rainfall on Monday. As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Rainfall and thunderstorms with hailstorm activity are likely over northwest India on April 3. The intensity of rainfall will decrease thereafter.

A Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation lies over west Iran and the neighbourhood in middle tropospheric levels. A trough in mid-tropospheric westerlies runs along Longitude 85°E to the north of latitude 25°N. A cyclonic circulation lies over west Rajasthan and the neighbourhood in lower tropospheric levels. A trough/wind discontinuity runs from north Chhattisgarh to south interior Tamil Nadu in lower tropospheric levels.
Under the influence of the above weather system. Rainfall s predicted over several parts of Inda. “Isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall very likely over Western Himalayan region during 02nd-05th with thunderstorm, lightning/gusty over the region on 03rd & 04th April. Isolated light/moderate rainfall with thunderstorm very likely over plains of northwest India during 02nd-04th with peak activity on 03rd April.” Isolated hailstorm is expected over Uttarakhand on April 3 and 4 and over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana on Monday.

East and northeast India will also witness rainfall activity over the past few days. “Scattered to Fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall/thunderstorm, lightning, gusty winds very likely to continue over Northeast India and Sub Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim till 05th April and gradual reduction thereafter,” the IMD said. Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely over east Arunachal Pradesh, east Assam, Nagaland and Manipur on Sunday. Isolated hailstorm is predicted over Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on April 2.
Meanwhile, southern parts of India are expected to witness rainfall activity during the next five days. “Isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall/thunderstorm, lightning/gusty winds very likely over Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala during next 5 days,” the MeT Department said. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over interior Tamil Nadu on Sunday.
Maximum temperatures are expected below normal by two to four degree Celsius over most parts of the country. It is likely to be below normal to n ar normal over most parts of India during the next five days.
