NEET UG 2023: China has since long been one of the most popular study abroad destinations for Indian medical students. While the numbers would have decreased slightly due to the Coronavirus pandemic, China has still managed to stay one of the most popular study abroad destinations for Indian medical students. In 2022, a total of 6,436 Indian students were studying in China.
While the Ministry of External Affairs does not maintain any data on for which course the students have applied for, according to the data provided by the NBE, 13,427 Indian students appeared for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) and 2,580 candidates cleared the screening test in 2021.

Eligibility
— At least 50 per cent aggregate score in Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects in Class 12
— NEET qualified (50 percentiler)
— Medical clearance against any contagious diseases.
— The minimum age requirement is 17 years.
Course structure
An MBBS degree in China is usually five year long, along with one year of internship. The internship year is compulsory for all students to get their degree certificate.
Admission process
To secure a seat in an MBBS programme in any of the Chinese universities, candidates need to first choose an institute and then fill out the application form for that varsity. While the NEET score is necessary, IELTS is not mandatory to pursue MBBS in China. However, the student should learn English.
Once the varsity provides a conditional offer letter, students can apply for a Chinese study visa using several documents such as passport copy, education degree proofs, identity proof, conditional offer letter from the university and more.
Scholarships
The Chinese government has several scholarships for international students. Aspirants can get the up-to-date scholarship information by visiting campuschina.org or csc.edu.cn/laihua. You can also consult the Chinese Embassy (Consulate General) in your home country or designated Chinese universities for your interested information.
Application for scholarships opens between early January and early April, and interested candidates are required to apply and send the required documents to the application receiving agencies before the deadline.

Tuition fees
Courses in the full-time department of MBBS degree costs approximately ¥ 30,000- 50,000 (Rs 3,50,000-6,00,000) per academic year.
Other than the tuition fee, a college accommodation can cost approximately around ¥ 6,000, in addition to other daily expenses.
Recognised colleges
According to the data available from the Chinese government, currently, there are 2,852 higher education institutions in China, among which 2,560 are regular colleges and universities, 292 are adult colleges and universities, and approximately 15,766,800 undergraduate students.
Some of the popular medical institutes are Chongqing Medical University, China Medical University, Guangxi Medical University, Hebei Medical University, Jiamusi University School of Medicine, Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Southern Medical University, Soochow University Medical College, Weifang Medical University, Zhengzhou University Medical School, among others.
Medium of teaching
Usually, MBSS is taught in English at all universities located in Mainland China. However, there are a few institutes that offer the option of studying the course in Mandarin. “If you are an undergraduate student, you must register for Chinese-taught credit courses. If your Chinese language proficiency does not meet the requirements of your host university, you must take one academic year Chinese language/preparatory courses in one of the 10 designated universities and pass the required tests before moving on to your major studies. Failure to pass the required tests will lead to the automatic termination of your scholarship,” the official website states.
