How to change phone number on Aadhaar card online: step-by-step guide

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) regularly advises Aadhaar card holders to update their Aadhaar details including address, phone number, photo and other details to ensure the accuracy and security of the information in their Aadhaar card. People can update their Aadhaar details online or offline at their convenience. However, UIDAI only allows the online updation of demographic details. To update biometrics or other details, one has to visit the nearest Aadhaar enrollment centre. 

UIDAI in its instruction related to the updation of Aadhaar says that ” In order to enrol for Aadhaar for yourself or for your family member, you will be required to visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Center. In case your Demographic details (Name, Address, DoB, Gender, Mobile Number, Email) is not up-to-date in your Aadhaar, you can get the same updated by visiting an Aadhaar Enrolment Center.”

Additionally, it is compulsory to update the Aadhaar details, especially the biometrics of children who have turned 15. Biometrics details including fingerprint, iris and photograph are required to be updated by visiting the nearest enrolment centre. 

Notably, in a recent announcement, UIDAI has made the updation of documents free of cost till June 14, 2023. People can update their proof of identity and proof of address online. However, the updation of mobile number can not be done online and need physical verification by visiting the Aadhaar enrollment centre. This is done so that no unauthorised person can misuse the updation process ad update your mobile number with a fake number. 

So, if you have changed your SIM card or want to update your phone number you can do so by visiting a Permanent Enrolment Center. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you with the Aadhaar updation process.

How to update phone number in Aadhaar 

– Visit your nearby Aadhaar Seva Kendra/ Aadhaar card Centre. You can check for the nearest Aadhaar centre by clicking on “Locate Enrolment Center” on uidai.gov.in. 

– To change the mobile number, the Aadhaar help executive will give you a form to fill out. Fill out the Aadhaar Update/Correction form.

– Recheck and submit your form to the Aadhaar executive.

– You will be charged a minimal service of Rs 50 for the update. Pay the fee to the Aadhaar executive. 

– After the transaction, The Aadhaar executive will give an acknowledgement slip containing the Update Request Number (URN).

– You can use the given URN to check the status of your application. 

– To check the status visit the myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/ and click on Check Enrolment & Update Status. Enter your URN number and captcha. 

Notably, your mobile number will be updated in the UIDAI database within 90 days.
