Rain to continue in Delhi-NCR, showers likely in Northeast | Check latest weather forecast

Heavy rains lashed parts of Delhi-NCR on Saturday, bringing the mercury down. While most of the areas in Delhi received heavy rainfall, some also witnessed hailstorms. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to light showers till March 22 for central, west India and south peninsula.

The seven-day forecast of the regional MeT says that light rain with gusty winds is likely in the Delhi-NCR region. The minimum temperature would hover around 15 degrees Celsius.

Rain and hailstorms lashed parts of Delhi on Saturday, bringing some respite from the warm weather. The eastern and northern parts of Delhi witnessed rain and hailstorms yesterday. 

The national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 18.2 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal.

NORTHERN INDIA TO WITNESS RAIN

According to the weather department, the northern part of the country might witness rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms and hailstorms.

Rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms/hailstorms over North India during 18th-20th; over Central, West India and south Peninsula on 18th & 19th. Heavy Rainfall likely over Northeast India during 19th-22nd March,” the weather office said in a statement.

“This shows the weather activity over J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, west Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, northern parts of Punjab and Haryana, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Assam & Meghalaya,” it added.

RAIN IN NORTHEAST

According to the IMD, widespread to light rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Northeast India till March 20.

“Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya during 19th-22nd and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during 20th-22nd March. Isolated very heavy rainfall also likely over Assam & Meghalaya during 19th-20th March,” the IMD said.

Light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds have also been predicted for north interior Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh,Telangana and Karnataka, the weather office said. 

Meanwhile, heavy rain coupled with hailstorms and stormy winds damaged standing crops in several villages of Maharashtra’s Latur district, an official told PTI.

District Guardian Minister Girish Mahajan held a review meeting at the collector’s office and directed officials to conduct panchanamas of the damage immediately.
