Even as most parts of northwest and central India have been recording maximum temperatures more than 3 to 4 notches above normal since mid-February, the MeT Office said the temperature in Telangana, interior Andhra Pradesh and parts of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh might soar up to 40°C by the first week of March.
The mercury may soar to 40 degrees Celsius and above in one or two meteorological subdivisions of northwest India in the first half of March, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.

MAX TEMP SETTLES AT 32.3 DEG C IN DELHI
It was a warm day in Delhi on Sunday as the maximum temperature settled at 32.3 degree Celsius, seven notches above the season’s average, the India Meteorological Department said. The city recorded a minimum temperature of 12.9 degrees Celsius, one notch above the season’s average, the IMD said.The relative humidity oscillated between 94 per cent and 40 per cent, it said.
The IMD has predicted mainly clear sky for Monday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to settle around 32 and 13 degree Celsius, respectively, on Monday.
The temperature is significantly higher than normal for the last one week. Delhi on Monday recorded the third hottest February day since 1969 with the maximum temperature at the Safdarjung observatory, the national capital’s primary weather station, soaring to 33.6 degrees Celsius.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR NEXT 24 HOURS
According to weather agency, Skymet, during the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain and snowfall may occur over Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Ladakh, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh.
Light rain is possible over Assam, Jammu, Sikkim, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Isolated light rain or thunderstorm may occur over parts of Punjab, north Haryana, and south Tamil Nadu after 24 hours. Intensity of rain and snowfall may increase over Western Himalayas between February 28 and March 2.
