New Delhi: In line with steady global rates, gold prices on Monday soared to a fresh lifetime high of Rs 57,149 per 10 grams. The yellow metal continued to trade in green on Tuesday. On the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold futures, maturing on February 3, rose 0.19 per cent to Rs 56,890.
Silver, on the other hand, declined in early trade. Silver futures, maturing on March 3, were down 77 points or 0.11 per cent at Rs 68,512 per kg.
Notably, gold prices slipped by Rs 80 to Rs 56,880 per 10 grams in the national capital on Monday due to weak local demand, according to HDFC Securities. Silver also declined by Rs 180 to Rs 68,795 per kg from Rs 68,975 per kg.

Prices of the yellow metal are likely to edge higher amid its safe heaven appeal among investors amid volatile equity market conditions. Meanwhile, investors are eyeing the US Fed meeting and Union Budget, which will also play a key role in impacting commodity market sentiment.

Gold, silver in international markets
Gold prices edged up on Tuesday, en route to their third straight month of gains, as the dollar weakened, while market participants awaited the U.S. Federal Reserve policy decision later this week amid hopes of a less-aggressive rate hike. Spot gold rose 0.2 per cent to $1,925.39 per ounce as of 0257 GMT and was headed for a monthly gain of more than 5 per cent. Spot silver rose 0.4 per cent to $23.67 per ounce.
