DigiYatra: Here’s how you can skip long queues at airports using this facial recognition technology

Queues are a usual scene at airports. Flyers have to almost wait for an hour to pass the security check and if you are unfortunate enough to fly in the morning or in the evening rush hour, it can take up to a couple of hours.

However, DigiYatra, the new facial recognition app launched by the Indian government in December last year, ensures seamless entry of passengers at the airport using facial recognition technology (FRT). It takes lesser time to get through, airport entrance, pre-security check, and boarding gates.

The DigiYatra service also facilitates self-Bag Drop and Check-in, using facial recognition to identify passengers and data recall. DigiYatra allows paperless travel and avoids identity check at multiple points.

The program is expected to be extended to four additional airports in Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, and Vijayawada by March 2023.

Many flyers meanwhile took to social networking sites to hail DigiYatra service launched at airports.

Lt General Satish Dua (Retd) took to Twitter to praise DigiYatra system at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi and wrote, “Wow! It took me 5 minutes to complete the security check after reaching the DelhiAirport T3. Download the DigiYatra app for a contactless experience. It makes your face your ID at Entry Gate 2A & there’s a special lane for DigiYatra at the Security Check too. Jai Hind.”

“From reaching the airport to getting past security check in under 5 mins at Bangalore airport thanks to Digiyatra. Superb! Took me longer to get into the lounge. Equally efficient at Delhi Airport T3. Well done guys,” another Twitterati wrote.
