WhatsApp seems to be working on multiple features as a few have already been spotted in the beta version of the app. The latest update shows that the messaging app will soon let you share images in original quality, which will be one of the biggest updates of Whatsapp this year. This is a much-needed feature and will help share high-quality photos with contacts.

According to a screenshot shared by WaBetaInfo, WhatsApp will add a photo quality option which will be visible when you share media with your contacts. The icon for photo quality will be located on the top of the screen along with drawing and other tools. This basically means that if one wants to send photos in the original quality, then they will have to change the quality setting every time they want to share media with contacts. We should get more clarity on the feature in the coming weeks or months.
But, the addition of this feature would also mean that your device will use more data than ever. It would be better to use Wi-Fi to download the photos because the resolution and size of the images will be pretty high compared to the ones that you are sending right now. WhatsApp currently compresses the quality of the images or videos that you send for two reasons. The low-quality content gets downloaded pretty quickly and doesn’t consume much data.
In order to save mobile data, one could consider turning off auto-download for media. The feature has been spotted in Android 2.23.2.11 beta update. Currently, you get three photo quality options in the app, including Automatic, Best quality, and Data saver. But, the “best quality” is not as effective and doesn’t offer high-resolution images on the app. WhatsApp hasn’t mentioned what image size the app supports in the “Best quality” option.

The cited source has confirmed that the feature is currently under development and will be made available to everyone in the future.
WhatsApp is one of the best apps and the quickest way to share things with friends and family. The upcoming update will make it an even better messaging app and give tough competition to rivals. Other messaging apps like Telegram already offer the advantage of letting you exchange big files or high-quality images with people. This is one area where WhatsApp was lagging behind and this update will help offer a much better experience to those who use the app on a daily basis for communication.
