Mark Zuckerberg-led Meta has rescinded job offers sent to new hires. The new development comes in the wake of the mass layoffs conducted in the company in the month of November. In the biggest ever layoff conducted in the history of the Zuckerberg-led company, Meta parted ways close to 11,000 employees. Now, the company is reportedly withdrawing full-time job offers amid fear of recession.

As per tech reporter Gergely Orosz, Meta has rescinded full time offers in London. Orosz tweeted, “Meta has rescinded full time offers in London, as I confirmed with devs impacted. New grads with offers due to start in February have been taken back in bulk. I know of about 20 people so far.This is the first time I’m aware that Meta is taking back signed, FTE offers.
Orosz had previously reported that the full time engineer offers were not at risk until a week ago. The company had previously rescinded offers for a large group of interns at its London office. The interns were due to start in January 2023 at the London office. He also reported that a software engineer with an outstanding offer got on the phone with a recruiter at Meta to find out if their full-time position is safe, or it could also be rescinded. He was then informed that the full time job offers were not at stake. However, Meta seems to have taken a U-turn on its decision to not withdraw full time offers.
As per reports, Meta is also quietly laying off people across offices. The company is also planning to shut an office in New York. However, there is no truth to the rumours as the sources working at the office have denied the reports.
Mark Zuckerberg informed the employees about layoffs through an email. He took complete responsibility for the layoffs. He wrote, “I want to take accountability for these decisions and for how we got here. I know this is tough for everyone, and I’m especially sorry for those impacted.”
After Meta and Twitter, Amazon also laid off thousands of employees recently. So more than 25,000 people were impacted in the latest round of layoffs which took place across big tech companies.
