Is the Indian stock market open on Monday after Christmas Day?

Stock market participants must be wondering when will markets close for Christmas?

Christmas Day falls on a Sunday this year. So, there will be no trading holiday in India due to Christmas this year, as per the BSE website.

The website says that tradings in the Equity Segment, Equity Derivative Segment and SLB Segment, Commodity Derivatives Segment, Currency Derivatives Segment and Interest Rate Derivatives segment will function normally on Monday, a day after the Christmas Day.

But, the U.S. stock market will be closed on Monday, December 26, 2022. In the US, bond traders will also have Monday off, but debt markets.

The same routine holds for the New Year’s holiday, with both the stock and bond markets closed on Monday, January 2, 2023.

It has been a year of historic losses in financial markets as the US Fed quickly raised its policy rate to levels last experienced 15 years ago.

Meanwhile, Indian equity benchmark Sensex nosedived about 1,000 points to settle below the 60,000-level and the broader NSE Nifty cracked below the 18,000-mark as participants fretted over renewed Covid fears and recession worries.

The BSE gauge Sensex opened significantly lower tracking its Asian peers and slipped below the 60,000-mark as the trade progressed further. It finally closed 981 points or 1.61 percent lower at 59,845. Likewise, the NSE Nifty tanked 321 points or 1.77 percent to close the session at 17,807.
