In a meeting convened between banks and the West Bengal Government on Friday, a doorstep banking initiative was approved in the state. For doorstep verification of life certificates for pensioners, bank officials in West Bengal will visit the residences of senior citizens who are liable to receive the said allowances.
Earlier, it was mandatory for senior citizens to either be present at banks or on video calls to get pension certificates. However, it was decided that there was no need to make their presence mandatory.
As per the West Bengal government, RBI guidelines support the move and 100 bankers who were present at the meeting supported doorstep banking to facilitate pensions in West Bengal.
Under the scheme, executives of banks will visit the residence of senior citizens for physical verification before giving them the pension certificate.
