Delhi MCD Election Results 2022 LIVE Updates: The AAP has emerged victorious in the MCD elections by hitting the majority mark of 126 even as counting of votes is underway in the national capital. The MCD has 250 wards, and the simple majority mark is 126. As per figures available at 11:30 am, the AAP has crossed the magic number of 126 with 56 wins and a lead in 77 seats.

It was earlier a tight contest with both the AAP and the BJP close on each other’s heels. Both parties appear confident of victory. AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “We are going to get more than 180 seats. If voters favour us, we can also cross 230 seats. Mayor will be from our party. I think exit polls are pointing towards the victory of Aam Aadmi Party.” Meanwhile the BJP’s Harish Khurana said, “We worked for the disposal of garbage and it continued even during Corona. BJP has worked. That’s why we’re confident that the next Mayor will be from BJP. Last time too, surveys gave only 50 seats to BJP but we won 2/3rd majority.”

The highest polling percentage (65.72) this year has been recorded in ward no. 5 (Bakhtawarpur), while the lowest (33.74 per cent) was registered in ward no.145 (Andrews Ganj).

Barring a few stray incidents of MCC (model code of conduct) violations and “a couple of other scattered incidents of impersonation”, the polling remained peaceful and no untoward incident of any kind was reported from anywhere, the SEC said in a statement on Sunday night.

According to data shared by the SEC on Monday, 51.03 per cent of the male voters exercised their franchise while 49.83 per cent of female electorate voted in the crucial civic polls.

Authorities had set up 13,638 polling stations across Delhi for the exercise.

This was also the first civic polls held in the national capital after the February 2020 riots in Delhi, and according to data shared by officials, 3,360 booths, spanning 493 locations, were identified in critical or sensitive categories.

The election this year was the first since the delimitation process, after three corporations of Delhi – NDMC, SDMC, and EDMC – were incorporated into the MCD, which formally came into existence on May 22.
