New Delhi: Congress on Sunday announced that it will launch yet another massive campaign following the conclusion of the ongoing ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. The decision was taken in today’s meeting of the Congress Steering Committee.
Before making the announcement, Congress MP KC Venugopal said two things were discussed during the Congress Steering Committee meeting today in the national capital.
“First is the plenary session of our party which we have decided to hold in the second half of February. It will be a 3-day session which will be held in Raipur, Chhattisgarh,” he said.
“Second, we reviewed and discussed the future course of action for Bharat Jodo Yatra. We have decided to hold a massive campaign ‘Hath se Hath Jodo Abhiyan’ from January 26. It will be a two-month-long campaign,” added the Congress leader.
When asked why Rahul Gandhi will skip the upcoming Parliament session, Venugopal said, “Bharat Jodo Yatra is underway. It is not practical for Rahul Gandhi to attend the winter session of Parliament.”
Congress president Kharge, former party chief Sonia Gandhi, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, his Chhattisgarh counterpart Bhupesh Baghel, senior leaders P Chidambaram, Anand Sharma, Meira Kumar and Ambika Soni were among those who attended the steering committee meeting at the AICC headquarters.
The steering committee was formed in place of the working committee, the highest decision-making body of the party, after party chief Mallikarjun Kharge took charge as the new chief in October.
Kharge’s election as the Congress president will be ratified at the party’s plenary session where the process of formation of the Congress Working Committee will also be finalised.
