Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev has carved a niche for his household products, and his enterprise Patanjali is considered a big competitor to all FMCG companies. But sometimes, his company or he can be seen embroiled in a controversy.
In one such instance, the outspoken BJP MP from Kaiserganj, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, has launched a scathing attack on Ramdev and called him ‘king of adulterators’. He has accused him of selling ‘fake ghee’ under his brand.
‘People should prepare ghee themselves’
Talking to reporters, Singh asked people not to buy the dairy product and said they should shelter cows and prepare ghee themselves.
He said that the “child of the weak is born weak. A child of a healthy person is born healthy. To stay healthy, it is very important to have cleanliness and pure milk and ghee in the homes”
He further said that he would meet with seers and saints from across the country and seek their blessings to start a nationwide movement against ‘fake’ dairy products.
“I will soon convene a meeting of seers and saints and urge them to stop the exploitation of the name of Maharishi Patanjali. I will ensure that saints give their blessings to my movement against fake milk products that are being produced and sold by Ramdev’s supporters,” he told IANS.
Moreover, the BJP MP also targeted Ramdev over his yoga techniques. He said that the godman turned tycoon has been teaching ‘Kapalabhati’ the wrong way, which is adversely impacting his followers.
Legal Notice served by Patanjali
Patanjali director Swami Balkrishna has served Singh a legal notice after the former questioned the quality of Patanjali products and had been asked to tender an unconditional apology.
I am not afraid of going to jail if it’s in the interest of the people…I stand by whatever I have said…,” Singh said in response to the notice.
Allegations of adulteration in past
The BJP MP also stated that the quality of Patanjali products had been questioned in the past as well. He appealed to the government to take action against the company and its promoters.
In 2016, Ramdev accused FMCG companies like Hindustan Unilever, Colgate and Nestle of conspiring against his homegrown brand. He alleged that the companies were getting fake and adulterated Patanjali products tested in laboratories for irregular results.
Multinational firms like Hindustan Unilever, Colgate and Nestle are bribing people to get fake and adulterated Patanjali products tested in labs,” Ramdev had said.
Ramdev also alleged that these corporations even produced reports from fake laboratories to tarnish his company’s reputation.
