NEW DELHI: Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday said that his government will implement the Uniform Civil Code in the next six months and consultations with all stakeholders are being held before finalising the code.
Speaking at the Times Now Summit, Dhami said, “The first job that we did after forming the government again was to set up the committee to come up with the draft of the UCC. Our Prime Minister always lays stress on participation of people in framing any policy and we are holding public consultations. Once the draft is ready, we will implement the UCC and we will be the first state after Goa to do so.”
“I had spelt out the reasons as well. Uttarkhand is Dev Bhoomi and it’s a state which has high number of soldiers. The state shares borders with two countries and it is the centre of spirituality, culture and religions. Hence, anyone living in Uttarakhand irrespective of caste, colour and religion, we will have one law,” he added.

Responding to a question on whether there is any resentment against the Agniveer scheme in the state considering the state sends high number of soldiers, Dhami said people here are patriots and no one has opposed it.
