The much-awaited online portal for filing Right To Information (RTI) applications to help people access information about the Supreme Court is totally paperless and is ready to be launched soon. According to the testing version which is available on the official website of the SC, the user will receive a registration and then RTI can be filed along with the requisite RTI fee of Rs 10.
At present, RTI applications are filed physically in the Supreme Court. The testing version has been made open to the public at large so as to ascertain if there are any glitches that need to be fixed before its official launch.
According to officials, the portal will be completely paperless and information pertaining to requests as well as responding to requests will be carried out online. But in case a citizen wants to file a physical RTI, he/she can do so with the registry, which will then scan the application and upload it to the portal.
Another feature which was added to this portal is that a user can make payment directly for the information sought if it is chargeable online only through various online payment modes.
Soon after taking over, the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, last week said that the aim of an online portal to streamline responses of the Supreme Court under the Right to Information Act is necessary.
